About Us

We are a group of Oak Park neighbors and friends. We are multi-generational and multi-ethnic. Our religious and cultural backgrounds reflect Oak Park’s diversity.

Many of us have been active in movements for peace, justice, and equality, including the Oak Park Ceasefire Campaign. Now, we join individuals and groups throughout the state to support the Illinois Human Rights Advocacy Protection Act, ILHRAPA, which will repeal Illinois’ 2015 Rauner-era anti-boycott and divestment law.

The Act is supported by the Illinois Coalition for Human Rights, which engages Oak Parkers and residents around the state in its educational, organizing, and lobbying efforts.

We plan to put a referendum question to all Oak Park voters. The referendum question is: Should the State of Illinois repeal laws that ban state investment in businesses that boycott the State of Israel?

To get this question on the ballot, we are launching a petition drive to get thousands of names of Oak Parkers on petitions by August 1,.

We will be at major community events throughout the summer with our petitions, informational fliers, buttons, and tee-shirts. Please come talk with us, sign our petitions, and join us in this campaign.

And if free speech and human rights are your passion, please contact us to support this work at opfreespeech@gmail.com .
